Everything about this place screams average. The food, service, location, interior, patrons...but in a positively average way.
Yes, they have more gluten free and vegetarian options for that crowd than most average cafes.
It's located on level one in Westfield Parramatta near Rebel Sport, so that makes parking a breeze if you can park on the only underground level. Otherwise prepare to walk.
We went intentionally for breakfast and they have all day breakfast, so that's one bonus. The big breakfast is usually the weekend special and you get small portions of average tasting eggs, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, sausage, toast and grilled tomato for $16. The strawberries that came with the French toast were actually fresh, lucky!
My partner ordered rumps steak + chicken tenders. Both came with small side salad and chips. All normal tasting, although the rumps steak was well done instead medium rare as ordered.
If you expect "fantastic unique gem awesome" cafe, then don't be disappointed when you don't receive it because this place does average so very well.
End of the day, it's still better than eating the take away slop available at the food court.

Hmm. The interior was pretty, the employees were nice and attentive, but... I don't think I'll be back. At least, not back for the pancakes. We split an order of their breakfast special & a stack of pancakes. The breakfast special was good, but the pancakes were absolutely horrible. :( The first time they arrived, they were burnt & had this weird taste. So we had it taken  back... 2nd batch was no longer burnt, but still tasted bad. Oh, well.

You could eat here, I guess... just stay away from the pancakes.

Reading the other reviews, maybe I just went on a bad day! I sat there for a full 20 minutes before being approached for my order. There were two or three staff members around cleaning tables but it took them a while to notice I was there.

I just ordered a coffee before I had to catch my train. It was pretty standard nothing glorious. Not sure if I'll be back to try the food though!!

Whispers is most definitely a diamond in the rough....or to be precise, a gluten free, vegetarian friendly cafe in the middle of one of the biggest shopping malls in Sydney. Westfield Parramatta is a maelstrom. Finding this little gem was perhaps one of the best local discoveries I've ever made. It's not fancy, there' s no asparagus served on wooden boards or freshly squeezed acai juice. It is however a small, friendly, reasonably priced cafe that serves delicious breakfast food and has an ENTIRE SHELF OF GLUTEN FREE CAKE! I repeat, AN ENTIRE SHELF OF GLUTEN FREE CAKE and once more with feeling, THIS PLACE HAS AN ENTIRE SHELF OF GLUTEN FREE CAKE AND THEIR MENU IS GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY AND THEY DON'T CHARGE EXTRA FOR SOY MILK.

'We don't charge you extra for the way you drink your coffee' declares the menu. No extra charge for soy, decaf or skim milk! Brownie points already. As somewhat shamefaced soy milk dependent person, I can count on one hand the number of cafes who don't lob on an extra 50cents every time I order a coffee. Really, it's not like soy milk's that unusual these days.

The cafe on the lower levels of Westfield looks like it's just had a shiny makeover, and while a little too shiny and bright for my frayed nerves, they do have booths. Huge fan of booths. Staff are friendly and efficient, and I was surrounded by happy people munching on the pastas and sandwiches on offer. I was amazed to see on the menu that they're happy to accomodate allergy requests and there was signs offering gluten free bread and cakes.

While my coffee was not the greatest cup I've ever had in my life, I'll be back here whenever, despite my best intentions, I've been sucked into the inescapable gravitational pull of Westfield. Thoughtfulness and good service brings people back, including me.
